Quickstart Guide

Set Up The "Brain" Controller

  1. Power the controller.
  2. Join the Wi-Fi network ArcanaGrow-<ID> with the password climate123.
  3. Make a note of the controller device ID shown in the network name ArcanaGrow-<ID>.
  4. Open http://192.168.4.1/.
  5. Search for Wi-Fi networks, select yours, and enter the password.
  6. After the controller joins your Wi-Fi, open http://arcanagrow-<id>.local/.
  7. If .local does not work on your network, use the controller IP shown during setup instead.
  8. In the bootstrapper UI, click Start claim.
  9. Open the link that appears. It opens http://lic.arcanasolis.com/.
  10. Sign in with your email and enter the verification code sent to you.
  11. In the license portal, click Approve claim.
  12. Go back to the bootstrapper UI. After approval, the device pulls its license and update token.
  13. If Receiver or Bootstrapper updates are available, install those first.
  14. Install the available Brain firmware update last.
  15. After the Brain firmware is installed, the controller reboots into the Brain UI.

If you entered the wrong Wi-Fi credentials while the controller is still in the bootstrapper, hold the BOOT button for 3 seconds, then release it. The controller clears its Wi-Fi settings and reboots into the setup access point.

Set Up Each Node

  1. Power the node.
  2. Join the Wi-Fi network ArcanaGrow-Node-<ID> with the password climate123.
  3. Make a note of each node device ID shown in the network name ArcanaGrow-Node-<ID>.
  4. Open http://192.168.4.1/.
  5. Search for Wi-Fi networks, select yours, and enter the password.
  6. After the node joins your Wi-Fi, open http://arcanagrow-node-<id>.local/.
  7. If .local does not work on your network, use the node IP shown during setup instead.
  8. In the node bootstrapper UI, click Start claim.
  9. Open the link that appears, sign in, assign the node to your controller if prompted, and click Approve claim.
  10. In the node bootstrapper UI, select the correct node product for that device, such as climate or substrate.
  11. Click Check latest.
  12. If an update is available, click Install.
  13. When the install is finished, click Boot node firmware.

Important: updating node firmware does not boot it automatically. After installing node firmware, you still need to click Boot node firmware.

If you entered the wrong Wi-Fi credentials on a node bootstrapper, hold its button for 10 seconds, then release it. The node clears its Wi-Fi settings and reboots into the setup access point.

For node bootstrapper maintenance updates, you also need a computer and a USB data cable.

Pair The Nodes

  1. Open the Brain UI on the controller.
  2. Click Pair Device.
  3. Press the large button on the AtomS3 Lite.
  4. The node should pair within a few seconds.
  5. After the first reading arrives, the node card and values should appear in the dashboard.

Updating Firmware Later

Controller

  • Use the controller bootstrapper UI to check for and install Receiver and Bootstrapper updates first, then install Brain last.
  • Installing Brain reboots the device into the Brain UI.

Node Firmware

  • Use the node bootstrapper UI to check for and install the correct node firmware product.
  • After installation, click Boot node firmware.

Updating Node Bootstrapper Firmware

Updating the node bootstrapper is different from updating node firmware.

  • The node bootstrapper is the setup and maintenance app.
  • The node firmware is the actual firmware for the node product, such as climate or substrate.

Updating the node bootstrapper requires a computer and a USB cable. Even on newer devices, the UI only downloads the maintenance package. The actual installation still happens over USB.

If I sent you a node bootstrapper USB package:

  1. Extract the ZIP file on your computer.
  2. Connect the node bootstrapper board over USB.
  3. Open the included instructions.md file.
  4. Follow the flashing steps for your operating system.
  5. After flashing, reboot the node bootstrapper and reconnect to http://arcanagrow-node-<id>.local/.
  6. Then verify that the correct node firmware is installed and click Boot node firmware if needed.

Important:

  • The USB package updates the node bootstrapper itself.
  • It does not install the actual node firmware product.
  • If your device does not have the node bootstrapper package download option in the UI yet, I will send the package manually.
